Last night I took out my mum’s wedding photographs. In those days weddings were organised differently. My Mum worked in a boutique, so the dress was from there, Aunt Joan did a lovely buffet; so she did the sarnies, the local village hall was booked and Uncle Len had a camera, so he was the photographer!
It was a lovely day, filled with friends and family, nearest and dearest…. the photos, well they were just rubbish.. ( no offence Uncle Len, you did your best)
It made me think of nowadays, the thousands spent, we see couples who have seen 20-30 different hotels, before they found one ‘they liked’, tasted cakes from every cake maker Cornwall has to offer, ordered hand made bunting, hand crafted invitations, real doves to release as they say ‘I do”. Weddings now-a-days are an amazing, incredible, wonderful all your wildest dreams come true affair, and yet sometimes ‘Uncle Len’ is still left to take the pictures!
So my advice of the day, however small your budget for photography, ( and please if its a toss up between the white doves, or the album of your dreams, you know what i am going to say………….) pick the photographer you want and the smaller package. Your photos are your memory, your album the only tangible part of your day, after your day. I think your photos are the most special thing ever when the memories fade and the white doves flown away.
