Today would have been my Mum and Dads wedding anniversary.
A sunny day in May, a very handsome young groom and a 17 year old blushing bride with the perfect hour glass figure in her 1950′s ballerina length dress.
A photographers dream wedding. My Mum has only the one decent photograph believe it or not.
Money was tight in those days, and the wedding was being financed by my parents. my Dads brother, said “dont book a wedding photographer, I have a good camera I will take the pictures!’ famous last words of a relative. We all know someone who has done this. Heads chopped off, important bits missed when he was socializing with the other guests ( which every brother of the groom should be doing on his older brothers wedding day) and the end result a handful of pretty awful photographers to treasure and keep forever.
The one good photograph however has pride of place on my Mums dressing table, and it is rather lovely. All these years on though she wishes she could have found the money for that professional photographer. As kind as the offer was from the brother-in-law at the end of the day, when the cake has been cut and the last dance over, the confetti thrown, the photographs are all you have to have and to hold ( apart from each other of course!!!!! arrhhhhh)

New lenses for our camera arrived today. As every photographer knows a good quality lens is a must. We decided that although our lenses were good, it was a good time to up-grade.

We were having a studio based day and the door bell went and the little brown boxes arrived. Ricky was working on an album on the computer, but beady eyes saw what was in my hand and in a flash had his camera in his hands ready to play with his new toy…. I mean serious piece of equipment. L series Canon 24-105
Ever since then I cant seem to eat my lunch, prepare a meal or sit at the computer without his camera pointing at me.
Luckily we have a party to shoot at tomorrow a wedding this weekend and a lot of studio sittings next week so he can snap away to his hearts content as there’s a reason I am a photographer I quite like being the other side of a camera, certainly when I am eating my lunch!

Spring is now in full swing and its busy here at Kiss Photography. We also know from experience soon the hotels will not be busy with lots of wedding, very soon they will be busy with holiday guests. So we took a few days out during the week last week and today to have quick meetings with the wedding coordinators to finalize everything we as wedding photographers need to know, before everybody gets too busy.
I like this part of the job as you get a nice feeling of total preparation before the big day. If its a venue we haven’t worked at before this is imperative. But also with the bigger hotels, they have so many different rooms that weddings can be held in, its nice to have a quick recce before hand so there are no surprises on the day. Also hotels seemed to be getting make-overs on a yearly basis, so sometimes the whole place can look completely different from one wedding to the next. It also gives us the chance to find the perfect spots for photos, have a chat about what we want to achieve artistically and what the bride and groom have specified they want. Sometimes in very dark places we like to do a quick camera test, so there are no surprises on the day.
All this preparation means the perfect wedding album photographs for the bride and groom.
Today we zoomed over to St.Mawes and the lovely Hotel Tresanton. The sun was shining and it was such a pretty drive from St.Ives, there was lots of overhanging trees forming archways over the twisty roads and when we reached St.Mawes, it was wonderful to see the dappled sun dancing over the sea. Very different from our last time there, it was pouring down then!
The terrace at Hotel Tresanton was filled with guests enjoying morning coffee looking out over the water. Ricky had a look round with the hotel manager while i scouted the beach and the walk down, I must find out from the bride if she fancies it (weather pending of course) in her dress, it was a little on the steep side if your in killer heels. I also took some test shots of good view points if they didn’t fancy going to the waters edge, and was happy with what I got. Ricky on the other hand found some lovely places inside to take photos if the weather is not on our side on the day.
Then it was off to Truro for another wedding meeting and we took The King Harry Ferry over, which was fun, we weren’t sure how much time it did save as we had to wait the full 20 mins, but it was nice, then back to St.Ives for a appointment with a bride and Groom. A full day, but a lot of boxes ticked.
