When working with little ones……
Amongst all the weddings September brings, we are still busy with the family shoots. Today took us to the beach. A lovely family on holiday with there beautiful little girl in tow. Our brief was great family shots, very beachy and with a lovely holiday feel. The sun shone although it wasn’t hot, which was perfect for us all.
What we weren’t told was that the lovely little one was terrified of the sand! we found a sand boat, that worked for a bit, but really and truly we weren’t getting her at her best. We knew we had to move on before the ‘magic window of toddler time’ was over. It can be very short before you lose them altogether and the moment doesn’t come back…even with chocolate buttons!
So we moved to what is know as ‘The Island’ grass, sea and beach in the background. Verdict: didn’t like grass either, never had!
It sounded mad, it was Rickys suggestion, but blooming heck it worked! we ended up in a beach car-park. She loved the stability of the concrete beneath her feet. She ran and laughed and gurgled and became the confident cute little girl she was.
When working with kids….you have to go with it, with them and their wants and needs. We got some great work that I am sure will make it onto the wall and the family christmas cards this year. It was a lovely afternoon all round, and the car park had a sea view!!!

Brides In Cornwall magazine gave Kiss Photography some lovely coverage of a fab wedding we photographed at Shun Lee House in St.Ives
I know Hayley and Doug, the bride and Groom will be over the moon.
Thanks Brides Magazine, and also for the mention of our new Bronze week day package on your news pages.

We always stand by the fact that we want KISS Photography to produce beautiful photos without any attitude, we want to slip into the background as much as possible and blend in when we can. Of course sometimes there has to be direction, but before we took up wedding photography full time we went to a lot of friends weddings as simply guests.
When slowly our photography careers changed direction and our work was starting to come away from the advertising campaigns and fashion shoots i organized and all the massive stress involved, and Ricky wanted to work for himself a bit more and channel his talents into our own business and work less corporately, we started to be asked to shoot weddings. I love the detail and beauty that goes into a wedding, i love the excitement of the day, the happiness of the guests and the different emotions that go on throughout the day, the nerves, the fun, the crying mother of the bride, the proud groom, the happy grandparents, the excited children. I love standing behind my camera capturing it all and being a witness to the biggest day of a persons life.
We often in the early days chatted about what we wanted Kiss to be and not to be. We wanted to to get the most fantastic photographs possible, and yet not take over. We didn’t want to be bossy and shout to get the groups in place, we wanted the day to remain as special as precious and personal as it is. We wanted to be friendly and easy going and not add any pressure onto the bride and groom.
Today we had a lovely comment.
Ricky was on the phone, chatting about a wedding print order with a client when he mentioned what a lovely day they all had and how some of the wedding guests thought we also were guests! At first I laughed, then when I thought about it I was so pleased that I feel we have cracked what we always wanted, we must have blended in, we must have been discreet, we must have achieved what we aimed for. They must have thought we were pretty game guests to take so many photos, go off to the beach with the bride and groom and not even have a drink in hand!! Gosh we were so into our photographs we didnt even sit down to eat !! But on a serious note we were chuffed and would like to thank Jasmine and Peter for their kind words.

You call this work?
Ricky had a few message in the sand shots today ( on our gift page on the website!) and I had the morning off. It was still early, I had our little girl with me and said well we will join you.
It was hot hot hot, and only 9.30am! the sea was sparkling and the beach had hardly a soul on it. Of course we didn’t want our little one running over the pristine sand Ricky was taking photos off, so I suggested to her we sit and order hot chocolates and cake while we waited! Funny, she jumped at the chance.
So we sat enjoying the perfect morning, we could see Ricky in the distance setting up his shots, moving about the sand getting the perfect angle, the perfect natural light, the perfect bit of sand, shooting, re-shooting, writing in the sand on another patch. My little girl was watching, we were quite a distance away and she looked at me and asked what her father was doing? Working was my automatic answer, and then I had to smile….its days like today that we really do have the most wonderful job.
